A New Year Under Trump 2026

2026 calendar

We are fast approaching the start of a second year under the authoritarian Trump regime, January 2026. This past year has been tumultuous and exhausting on a daily basis, riddled with controversies spanning from a host of racist actions, the coverup of pedophiles by the Department of Justice (D.O.J.) and the F.B.I., the erosion in relationships with our allies, increases in tariffs, and even murders of Venezuelans.  Numerous people have lost their healthcare, and this current month, it is estimated over a million people will drop their health insurance plans due to rising premiums with over 22 million people experiencing an increase cost of over 100 percent.  I personally think way more than a million will have to forgo their plans.

However, my sympathies are reserved for those who voted for the "black woman". Nor do I have sympathy for those who chose not to vote at all, but could had done so. We have three more years to go, that is, if our dictator decides to leave the White House according to law. Unfortunately, destroying a whole section of the White House to construct a ballroom points to a "kid-loving", 34 count felon who is likely to be a futuristic squatter. There has been a plethora of chaos generated by the Trump administration - too much to list all in a single post.

Describing Donald Trump as unhinged falls short of the nature of the man. On Christmas day, Trump posted 150 times on Truth Social. I guess Christmas competed with him getting enough attention, so naturally he excreted posts lest he be ignored. This lunatic possessed the capacity to throw the United States into war within seconds, once his discrepant mind is made up. Sadly, his cabinet members and other  congressional Republicans will acquiesce to Trump's whims without any resistance. The Republican Party is the biggest group of self-serving cowards I have ever seen in government. Trump will continue to abuse the power of the executive branch.

I must advise people who give a rip about the demise of our democracy to occasionally pull back from it all. I am not one to withdraw from the news, but some withdrawal is probably necessary in the midst of continuous chaos and lawlessness. There are days I just read the headlines, and think to myself, 'I cannot handle this sh*t today'. We all probably need days to do some reflection in other areas of our lives, and maybe a little entertainment from time to time.  But in my mind, we are in a big war to preserve our democracy. I get up in the morning with it, I think about it all day, and wake up in the night with it. We have lost our democracy, and we must be vigilant as the Trump regime has already taken steps to manipulate the mid-term elections.

This past Christmas day, I felt hollow. This year never felt like Christmas seasons of the past.  I experienced great sadness as I thought of all the families ICE has destroyed this past year. I pictured families around the table with a mom missing, a father missing, grandparents and perhaps even a child, and imagined their anguish. Because of the color of their skin, and white fear, these families are forever changed. Children have been separated from their parents without a second thought; as the MAGA crowd gleefully celebrate their hardship and pain. MAGA comprises a despicable crowd; filled with hatred, plus they are protectors and excusers of pedophiles. Literally!

What can we expect? Absolutely more chaos, more lawlessness, and more controversy. We the people must focus on resistance to authoritarianism. We must organize and vote in the mid-terms, even for lily-livered Democrats, and most definitely for the real fighters in the Democratic Party. The electorate should vote out all in the Senate who passed the Charlie Kirk resolution which commemorates a white supremacist. Doing so eliminates the current United States Senate in its entirety! We need new, unbought people-- people who stand up to racism and who are not afraid to challenge Donald Trump.  We need a new Democratic Party which truly represents the people and who are less concerned about long term political careers.

If you are not registered to vote, or feel like it does no good, know you are a part of the problem and your lack of action helped get this dictator elected to office. We should continue with No Kings Protest despite schoolyard bully cries of "Antifa". And with any luck, our reigning lunatic may kick off, but unfortunately J.D.Vance awaits to take his place, perhaps with a blond first lady by his side instead of a brown skinned first lady.  However, and I will never understand why the appeal, a lot of MAGA worship Donald Trump--way more than they do J.D. Vance.

Donald Trump is only a symptom of a much larger problem: white supremacy. The Stephen Millers, Pam Bondis, Russell Voughts, and little Marcos are cookie cutter, corrupt white supremacists, and there are many of them! MAGA folk believe in voting, so why cannot those on the left get their act together? It is time for us to work towards getting our democracy back, and the easiest and least sacrificial way is to exercise one's right to vote. Let's not be dissuaded by the scare tactics either: from facial recognition software scanning crowds or being characterized as "terrorists" because we exercise our constitutional right to protest and speak out. We must continue to fight this for we have no choice.

Jessie Jackson Has Passed

Jessie Jackson, a renown civil rights leader, recently died on February 17, 2026. I was a young kid when Martin Luther King was assassinated...
