Good news! Both Nexstar and Sinclair has reversed its position on airing Jimmy Kimmel, and now will be broadcasting the show once again! People power at work folks!
An article on NPR's website states "Operating ABC stations in 30 markets, Sinclair said its decision came
after receiving "thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers, and
community leaders representing a wide range of perspectives." The same article states Nexstar released the following statement "As a local broadcaster, Nexstar remains committed to protecting the
First Amendment while producing and airing local and national news that
is fact-based and unbiased and, above all, broadcasting content that is
in the best interest of the communities we serve".
A tsunami wave of protest and withdrawal roared across the nation after Disney, who owns ABC, capitulated to Brendan Carr's and man-baby Trump's demands to remove the program. It was an absolute violation of free speech, guaranteed in the First Amendment. The decision not to air Jimmy Kimmel Live denied access of the show to nearly 25% of television viewers across the nation.
Sinclair made the following statement on Friday, “Our decision to preempt this program was independent of any government
interaction or influence,” Sinclair said Friday. “Free speech provides
broadcasters with the right to exercise judgment as to the content on
their local stations. While we understand that not everyone will agree
with our decisions about programming, it is simply inconsistent to
champion free speech while demanding that broadcasters air specific
content.” Translation: we got scared sh*tless because Carr can pull our broadcasting licenses. But we also realize we need the bucks.
We cannot let our guard down. Trump is using executive orders to suppress freedom of speech to silence his critics and those on the left.
